The Sun network is the largest satellite network in south India and is a giant and pioneer in the industry. It was started on 7th December 2007 and the progress has been very steady in great magnitude, since then. Though initially launched in Tamil nadu, Sun network’s tentacles have spread far and wide through out the world in amazing speed and have crossed four million subscribers. The services of Sun direct DTH have now been extended to Hindi speaking areas of North India from Gujarat to Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir to Madhya Pradesh.
Sun direct, fundamentally, uses the latest mpeg 4 based technologies which is the main reason for the wider broadcasting capacity. Sun direct is presently working on high definition television (HDTV) content and soon hopes to provide HDTV over the next few months.
With the launch of HD services, sun direct expects to enhance its average revenue per user from ninety rupees. HDTV technology is one of the world’s best digital broadcast platforms and has a higher resolution than the traditional TVs. With the commonwealth games 2010 set to be telecast on the HDTV platform, it would be a big boost to the industry, sun direct officials said.
Sun direct is an 80:20 joint venture between the Maran family of Tamil Nadu and the Astro group of Malaysia. It offers a huge total of 200 and more channels, including the most viewed channels being broadcast. The great attractive part of sun direct services is that the subscriber has to pay only for the channels he watches.
Recently, the international channels have been introduced in all of the basic packs and the dish and set top box are all offered free of cost during installation. There are basically seven basic packs. In addition there are 41 add- on packs whose prices ranges from six rupees to three hundred rupees per month. Unlike dish TV and Tata sky, sun direct does not charge any carriage fee from the broadcasters.
Sun direct is all set to capture forty to forty five percent of the DTH market this fiscal year from the present hold of thirty percent and as a diwali festival offer, sun direct offers new packages, freedom pack and shine pack for those activations between September 18th and October 20th for all variants of south and non- south packs, though this will not be applicable for renewals.

Makkal TV – is free to air – stoped by SUN DTH
We can get this channel with all cable operators in Tamil Nadu as well as from DD DTH as it is free to air.
From last week onwards after updation of software, SUN DTH withdrawn MAKKAL TV a free to air Tamil Channel.
People can miss the following:
A pure tamil speaking channel.
Lot of live prgms.
Where we can recall all old / school age tamil proverbs.
Daily afternoon 2pm to 3 pm – “market” where we can sell or buy
Only Tamil channel in india – with out Tamil film songs / jokes / filims
Will Sun Dth officials will consider to include this again?

hi i had bought this sundirect connection on 29th april 2010 for an amount of Rs 1690 which had installation and 6 months basic telgu channel free now after 1 month i.e on 29th may 210 my account has got deactivated for no reason and inspite of calling the customer care of sun direct no action has been taken of the same since last 3 days we are left with seeing no channels at all at no fault of ours.. Inspite of mailing and calling them we regret taking sundirect tv at our home.. my smart card no is 41307789507 . its a terrible exp we are facing by taking sundirect tv . we bought this thru a dealer so when we make calls to the dealer they say call the customer care and when i call them they say call ur dealer.. its just too bad exp for us and yet we are unable to watch any of the channel.. the receipt i got from sundirect showed 6 months basic channels free now they are saying its not so… so next time u the connection.. dont trust them at alll.. thats what we got exp.
hai i hab bought this sindirect last one year it is good servicess and south pack is very use for users and thnks for sun dth servicess for re added sakshi news channel , one of the draw back of sun dth servicess that is sports package and religion channels and childrens channels are not available but those are very cost of monthly subscribe athor dth servicess

The quality of service is not upto the mark by Sun Direct DTH. I am one the buyer who has recently bought a new connection and with in 2 days they had some problem of INSAT failure, thus make no TV for more than 48 hrs. 2ndly even if its just drizzling the signal goes off. Limited VoD offering from then compare to other DTH. Not much of FTA in their offering. The only good thing is picture quality is good. Can anyone from Sundirect looks in to these issue and resolve it????

Assume current situation 10, 00,000 people lost connection due to frequency assailment.

In my case I lost connection from last 15days (Assume commonly minimum 10 days) and if you call customer care, same response within 24hrs our technician come and fix the problem.

I have brought sun direct 6 mnths before and subscription for 1 year 1310 but no channels and radio is coming and alignment and upgrade of dish
i have to laugh… when dialing customer care each time a person gives new number and i have 6 complaint numbers with no service men attended and regarding nodal officer tamilnadu he is than service man … he is coming to sit in ac and sleep …. nearly 3 emails.. laziest of lazy even a begger wont be like that…

i can only tell that the experience with sun direct has been pathetic for the last few weeks…. When we call their customer support (I dont know whether it is their own or it is outsourced to some third rate party), we get the same standard words played back at us : Your problem will be resolved at the earliest ….
Different people come online when we call the support and give the same line as the answer. We have been having issues in the lasst 1 month for not getting the entire Sun tv, Vijay tv etc. in our installation and till date even though we call them up everyday to register the complaint, NO ONE has come in and resolved it till date for the last 1 month.
I heard from another source that this is primarily because that they are not paying the distributors and support people when they come and fix the problem to such an extent that they are loosing out the distributors and support people at a rapid rate. Maybe Mr. Maran is busy taking out all his money out from Sun Direct and divert it into his new investment – Spicejet airlines….
The experience was very pleasant and positive till 3 months back for a duration of around 1 year but the last 3 months, I would rate it at around 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest)
A strong NO to go with SUN Direct but if you still want to go with it, do not say that nobody warned you in this forum…..

Sun Direct has moved to a new Satellite. When I switch on my TV, I am getting a message saying “We have moved to a new satellite. Hence your Dish needs to be retuned to the new satellite immediately. Service on this satellite will stop shortly. Our distributor/Dealer will do the Dish adjustment free of cost. To enjoy uninterrupted programs/Channels please contact your nearest dealer/distributor immediately.”
It’s been more than two and half month passed. Day by day the no. of channels I am viewing is reducing but every month Sun direct charging for the total channels. Apparently Sun direct charging for the services which are not actually provided to me. I am very frequently calling Sun direct customer care and complaining them to provide the full services. So far five service request has been raised to restore the services for me on priority. As per the customer care people my request has been transferred to the Technical department 2 days back. But nothing happened.
Here I am loosing money in two ways.
1. I am paying for the services which I am not getting from Sun direct
2. I had to call Sun direct customer care very frequently to get the complete services.
As this is the problem with service provider (Sun direct) why should customer suffer with that? They should have engaged adequate staff to restore the services. Otherwise they should not charge for the services which they are unable to provide.
Since from last 3 month Sun direct mentally tortured me a lot. My family is also suffering a lot due to this. I have no patience to wait.

I have taken the sun direct on 27-11-2010 with Telugu basic pack. It is stopped working after 12-12-2010 (Started getting E48-32 error). I have take the connection from MST Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Kottivakkam, Chennai. I have complained the same to customer care the same about 10 to 15 times. Every time they say same answer that with in 24 hours it will be rectified. There are many 24 hours passed but no body atteneded the problem.
I felt Sun Direct is the least bothered about their services.
One thing is good that they install the new dish/connection on same day which you asked for the connection and later they will forget about. I dont know what to do now. Since last 15 days we are not watching TV and when they will respond.
I would not suggest SUN DIRECT for any body,

I have been using Sun direct from last one year, from the day 1 i having problem with customer support.
Now from 4 months iam not getting any channels, i had contacted the custome support they have taken complaint thatz it no body solved complaint….
The Sun direct is Customer support/technical support is not good. I will suggest other people to don’t expect any good customer support from This fellows.

the customer care cell is useless and providing the contact details of discontinued dealers details to contact. after trying quite long time when decided to visit the dealer, found he discontinued the bussiness a month ago and no one was there. for any information they ask to contact the dealer.
The alternate dealer demand service charge for every visit for alligning the dish. but sun direct website says it is free service. I was forced to pay Rs.150 dish alighnment to the dealer.Hardly i got the channels for a month after paying extra Rs150/-. since I refused pay the dealer for subsequent visit the technition never turned up. I am not getting any channels due to frequent change of satelite or so called upgradation.

Sundirect DTH Technical service is very very worst… I called and locked the complaint, the call center fellows used to says within 48 hours your problem been resoloved. however no one technical service provider will come and attend the call… Techincal service very worst… New comer don’t opt with Sundeirect DTH…
If you want to experience WORST, PATHETIC, AWFUL, F****king, S****King service, go for Sun Direct. It had caused sleepless nights due to their satelite change and as many have mentioned below, had same experience with their CS and dealers. I said Bye to Sun direct and hi to Videocon. It has many channels and affordable cost. Their service is AWESOME. Please opt for either Airtel or Videocon as they know this business very well.

I wish I had read these reviews before going for suntv dth.I moved on to sun dth from tatasky,just because they offer more Malayalam channels.
The company has a totally unprofessional approach towards customer care.The customer care exec are unhelpul may be because of lack of any formal training.They just stop talking while discussing an issue or give another number to talk to!
Now here is my harrowing experience.After paying the amount of Rs 1590 to the dealer at pimpri,Pune on the promise he would install the hardware next day morning nobody turned up.After much cajoling,he sent his technitian the next day .Once the fixing was done the guy said activation of account would happen only once he gets back to the dealer.However.when I am writing this already 24 hrs have elapsed and the account is not yet activated.
I called up customer service cell and got response as explained in the second paragraph.
I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANYBODY FOR THIS DTH CONNECTION.
The worst ever DTH provider in India. The call centre is such a pathetic one, that the customer will pull his or her hairs for their own fault of opting for this stupid SunDirect. They have regional packages and if you opt for any one of the regional package, then you are taken for a jolly ride. They dont provide some common news channels, education channels etc. You will have to add on and they keep deducting the amount from your account. Since the IPL started, I called up SunDirect and asked them to add on the concerned channel. They did it, but only for a week’s time. Again it is blocked. Calling them on their call centre is the worst experience one can face in their lifetime. There’s a distributor who initially helped me in adding some channels. Any time I call the distributor, after getting fed with SunDirect Call Centre, they will simply say that their server is slow and call up after one hour. This goes on till 5:30 pm in the evening and after 5:30 pm there’s no single soul in the organisation to answer our calls. I would advise one and all that in case you are planning to go for any DTH service, please do not consider opting SUNDIRECT because they play with the patience of the customer and that is evident from their ads ” tan tana tan”. That is what they do with the customers.
