Videocon DTH review

Author: Chandra, Chennai.

Videocon, a well known electronic manufacturer familiar to Indians, is all set to launch its own direct- to- home services in India. If done, it will be a new addition to the already existing six DTH services like Sun direct, Tata sky, Dish TV, Big TV, Airtel digital TV and DD direct.

Videocon would launch under D2H band. The test signals are already underway. Videocon TV has about 20 to 30 % share in the TV market. There were speculations around that the launch would take place last year itself but owing to current stock market situation and the slide in Videocon shares, the launch has been postponed to 2009-10. Anil khera would be heading the dth venture in India.

Videocon is planning to invest around one thousand crores in the coming year and has already added 4, 31,253 new customers in Oct 08. Videocon provides free viewing for one or two months and would charge 1000 rupees for installation. It also plans to offer over 60 channels and some news channels and pay channels for 100 rupees monthly. However, the big package is 350 Rs for 130 channels including sports channels and pay channels.

In addition to regional packages, there would be seven packages in all. This will give a tough time to their competitors as subscribers will get channels of their choice. Unconfirmed reports say that internet connection would also be available for the subscribers but till now, a two way connection through LNB has not even been heard of.

The set top box for Videocon d2h will be made in India but Videocon television owners need not compulsorily buy a set top box which is a savings on new connection. The set top box is an MPEG-4 that is; it will be a digital satellite receiver that provides a better picture quality.

The help of a leading Korean digital set top box manufacture is also sought. The Middle East customers can also enjoy this facility as the DTH would be made available through an Israeli satellite. The company aims to grab a subscription base of ten percent in the first year of launch.

I am a videocon dth user. i bought a staelite dvd setup box. The dvd player that comes with it is of low quality and doesnt spport all the video formats that they claims in their brochure. It supports mp4 files but will not support mp4 files of high definition. it doent have a hdmi port.

For the last one month, i am having issues with dth services. Currently i have taken South Diamond Pack which includes almost all the channels available including espn, star sports ten sports ect. but now i am not getting these kind of paid channels. I have complained them about this several times and now i am not able to contact them. Customer care service is alos very bad, as they will be busy all the time. I am a cricket fan, and ther is only week left for world cup. I donno what i will do right now, whether keep on complaining this or throw the setupbox and dish on the road and go for othar dth service.

I strongly recommend not to go for Videocon dth, If you need any more info on this mail me on seevarun@gmail.com. My Customer id is 10020661
