Dish TV subscribers can watch high quality digital channels from Diwali onwards. Dish TV is moving from low quality MPEG-2 to DVD quality MPEG-4 platform. It will also launch High Definition (HD) platform from November onwards. It is inevitable for Dish TV as all the new entrants (Reliance Big TV, Sun Direct and Bharti Airtel) are entering into DTH competition with high quality MPEG-4 technology. MPEG-4 also enables to broadcast more channels due to high compression without losing quality. Dish TV has 3 million subscribers in 2,200 towns and it is the number one satellite TV service provider in India followed by Tata Sky with 2 million subscribers in 1,700 towns. Dish needs to improve its customer service to keep its top position. Big TV DTH is planning software up gradation on May 25th to solve minor software glitches in its remote service. Reliance may commercially launch Big TV DTH in June across 2,500 towns in India.
